Choosing the perfect gray can make your head spin – brown-ish gray, blue-ish gray, black-ish gray. You only have a few thousand options at your local paint store, so how do you choose?

Gray remains a popular color for interiors. As one of the elegant neutral color options, gray is a fan favorite because it can warm up or cool it down your space. Therefore, when selecting the perfect gray we like to focus on the color temperature. If you prefer warmer tones look for a yellow or beige based gray, or greige, as the trade likes to call it. If you prefer cooler tones you may opt for a blue or green-based gray.

Remember, lighting plays a large role in how your color will look in your room. Do you have a lot of natural lighting? Which direction does the light come from? North, south, east, or west? Do you use lamps in your space? What color is the shade? A colored shade may need to be transitioned to white. All of these elements can impact how the color appears in your space throughout the given day, and being mindful of these elements is half the battle to selecting the right color.

The best way to evaluate any paint color is to live with it for a few days. Paint a sample wall and then determine how you like the color at various times throughout the day. How does the color change when the lighting in the room changes? How does the color change when switching out lamps or lamp shades? When you find a color that checks the box from sun up to sun down – you have found your winner!

Ready for a couple more tips for selecting the perfect gray?

  • Gray can absolutely be paired with an accent color – the undertone of your selection will help you determine the best color partner
  • Flat paint may be your best option for gray walls. Flat paint also helps to hide flaws & smudges
  • Gary walls – Cream trim. Sometimes stark white can be too bright when paired with your gray. Evaluate cream colors that have either a brown, yellow, or red tint and see how that pairs with your gray selection – it may provide just the right amount of warmth and color balance

Lastly, don’t let selecting a paint color stress you out…have fun and enjoy the process! Remember a paint color can always be changed!

Happy painting!

And the Pantone Color of the Year 2017 is….

» 03 February 2017 » In Uncategorized » No Comments

Each year, the world patiently anticipates the Pantone Color of the Year, as this announcement sets the stage for all creative design fields.

But what is Pantone and why do they get to select such an important color?

Pantone, founded by Lawrence Herbert in 1963, is the world-renowned specialist on color. They are the provider of color systems and leading technology for the selection and accurate communication of color across a variety of industries. From designer to manufacturer to retailer to customer, Pantone is the trusted source for color accuracy. When selecting the color of the year, field experts make a selection that is symbolic of the world’s attitude and current state.

The stage was set in 2016 with the selection of Rose Quartz and Serenity. The combination strived to create an environment of order and peace. With the stress of the election, the world seemed to yearn for mindfulness and tranquility as we transitioned into 2017. The announcement of Greenery felt like a refreshing choice.

Greenery surrounds us every day from our backyards to our tabletops and fills the need of positive energy many pursue in design. Psychologically, we tend associate greenery with nature, providing a refreshing sense of health and well-being.

Are you thinking about a bold way to implement Greenery into your design? Consider diving headfirst into this trend by painting a statement wall, and accenting with corresponding blue and purple accessories. A more subtle option may be to add a punch of color to your favorite room by implementing accessories featuring our color of the year. Either way, this healthy punch of color is sure to brighten your home and your mood! How are you going to add greenery into your life this year?

It was a pleasure working with Lisa Tyler from Kentucky Select Properties. And we can happily announce that this lovely home was sold in just one day! Staging really does make a world of difference! We hope you enjoy these photos as much as we enjoyed staging this home.

Thanks For a Great Year!

» 10 December 2013 » In Uncategorized » No Comments

It hasn’t been long since we finished Thanksgiving Turkey and the hustle and bustle for Christmas has already begun.  Making lists, checking twice, studying for finals, getting ready for holiday parties, dances, etc.  I know the holidays are a time to be thankful, as every day should be.  So, for the last two days I have been wandering around trying to figure out what to write about…and then it hit me:  There are people I see every day in passing as part of my routine, some not as much as others, but they always make me feel welcome, like “Norm” from Cheers.  With the holidays approaching, I am always thankful for my family and friends in their support of my business.  In addition, I would like to add some other special mentions:

  • All the clients I have worked with this year.  It has been a pleasure to get to know you and share your happiness in the work and success we have created together.
  • All of the sub-contractors that I work with and know have my back and that I truly trust.  I know I can count on you and truly appreciate your expertise in each one of your fields.  I hope you feel the same about me.
  • Vendors such as Digs, Sew Unique and Merridian that I have worked with both personally and professionally.  Your talents and friendship mean a great deal.

I leave you with a few pictures of some of my favorite people with whom I consider friends along with a peek inside their stores…check them out, they will make you feel like your coming home.

I wish everyone a Happy Holiday, Merry Christmas and Cheers to 2014!
